Students from private and government schools in Peshawar gathered at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to celebrate International Children’s Day with vibrant activities and symbolic parliamentary proceedings.
Dressed in traditional attire, boys and girls took on the roles of government and opposition members during the symbolic proceedings, highlighting key issues faced by children across the province. The event was organized in collaboration with the Implementation Support Unit (ISU), Directorate of Elementary and Secondary Education, UNICEF, and other organizations.
The celebration was attended by around 100 students from various schools, including 20 special children, alongside prominent officials such as ISU Program Director Um Laila Jafri, Program Manager Pir Fahd Ali Shah, Psychology Manager Muhammad Adil, and UNICEF representatives Rudzak and Fawad Ali Shah.
During the symbolic assembly proceedings, the students shed light on pressing challenges, particularly in the merged districts. Discussions centered on issues such as polio, child labor, environmental pollution, and the lack of adequate facilities in the education and health sectors for children.
The students also visited various departments of the Provincial Assembly, gaining insights into its operations and legislative processes. This experience aimed to inspire the young participants to engage with civic and governance matters.
At the conclusion of the event, shields were presented to ISU Program Director Um Laila Jafri and other key participants in recognition of their efforts in organizing the celebration.
The event provided students with a platform to voice their concerns while fostering awareness about children’s rights and issues, underlining the importance of inclusive and child-focused policies in the province.
