Judicial Magistrate in Lahore on Wednesday given 2-days physical remand of alleged man for running smear campaign against army and its chief after Imran Khan ousted from office through no-confidence motion.
The man initiated the smear campaign from his twitter account, FIA informed the court.
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) urged court for 14-days but court only approved 2-days. FIA arrested the alleged man from Lahore on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, a meeting of Pakistan Army officials had also taken notice of the recent criticism directed at the institution on social media.
“the forum took note of the recent propaganda campaign by some quarters to malign [the] Pakistan Army and create division between the institution and society,” a statement by the military’s media wing said.
It had added that, the meeting expressed “complete confidence on the leadership’s well-considered stance to uphold the constitution and rule of law at all costs”.
The forum also emphasized that the national security of Pakistan was sacrosanct. “Pakistan Army has always stood by the state institution to guard it and always will without any compromise.”
Later on FIA launched crackdown on social media activist and arrested eight people across the Punjab that they believed were involved in the campaign.
Action against the arrested men is being taken under sections of the controversial Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act.
