Symposium on male contribution towards gender justice held

The Department Social Work at University of Peshawar (UoP) in collaboration with Faculty of Social Work University of Calgary, Canada organized an international Symposium titled “Men Role in Gender Justice” at Iqra National University (ICU).
Professor Shah Jehan, Vice Chancellor (VC) INU highlighted the overall aim of the event and streamline the male contribution towards gender justice in the local context.
Head of Office UN-WOMEN Peshawar, Zainab Qaiser Khan was the chief guest and honored the family male for continuous support and achievements in the field.
Associate professor, Dr Aamir Jamal thanks his grandfather for allowing and educating his mother to become the first lady in the family to get education and join the teaching profession.
Ex Director Area Study Center UoP, Prof Fakhar-ul-Islam shed lights on the Islamic perspectives on gender justice which promotes equality and emphasis on equal educational rights.
Additional Inspector General (AIG) KP Police, Dr Muhammad Quraish Khan briefed about gender oppressive practices, a case study of GHAG Kurram, when he was the DPO at that time in Kurram.
KP police has manifold achievements in terms of gender police reporting and established 65 model police stations with gender help desks.
KP police have incorporated the gender sensitive training module into the police curriculum and trained twenty thousand plus levies force on gender policing reporting, he added.
He said that women have been encouraged to join the police force and currently the 1 percent quota shows progress.
A local gender police reporting setup has achieved multiple successes in coping gender based challenges, he added.
Mahmood Jan Babar expressed the role of media in gender based cases and suggested check and balance on social media control and ethical guidelines adherence.
Inayat Begum was an Ex MNA and parliamentarian who contributed to the legal framework for women protection and empowerment.
Habib Ur Rehman shared that 4.3 million children are out of school and the elementary and secondary education foundation has introduced E Education, POHA LMS program, community based informal schools and enrolled 0.2 million children.
Provincial Ombudsperson, Rukhshanda Naz appreciated the concept of promoting male role in gender justice and overview on the protection against harassment of women at workplace.
At the end, an honorary shield was given to the panelists and the book of Dr Aamir Jamal titled “The Gate Keepers” English and Urdu version was honoured to the participants.
