Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Mardan chapter, has suffered a setback after its senior leader and former provincial minister Iftikhar Khan Mohmand announced to quit the party and joined the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F).
PTI leader Iftikhar Khan Mohmand made the decision during a function held at JUI-F Markaz at Peshawar here on Friday.
On the occasion, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehaman welcomed the PTI leader into the party fold, and expressed the hope that more PTI leaders would join the party before the next general elections.
The JUI-F chief said his party had always worked for promotion of democracy, supremacy of the Constitution and wellbeing of people.
He flayed the PTI leadership for introducing politics of hate. However, he said the days of the PTI government in KP were also numbered as no one would vote for it in the coming general elections due to its ‘flawed’ policies.
He insisted his party would come to power in the province after winning most of the seats in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking to the participants, Iftikhar Khan Mohmand alleged PTI chairman and Former Prime Minister for creating political and economical unrest in the country and made the country’s institutions controversial.
He said that the PTI government failed on all fronts and disappointed its workers and leaders across the country.
Political observers termed Iftikhar Khan’s quitting PTI a big blow to the party in Mardan district.
Iftikhar Khan Mohmand remained provincial minister for food, physical planning, education and finance in the former times in KP.
In the recently held local body elections in the province, PTI awarded a ticket to his son Khawar Khan Mohmand for Tehsil Takhtbhai mayorship but he was defeated by JUI-F candidate.
