All around the world, tales of heroism and sacrifice are among the most sacred stories we pass down. Myths of great deeds and warriors have endured for centuries, proving that one of the highest virtues a human can embody is supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. These values are found in every religion and noble social tradition. Where others look to myths, stories, or films to witness heroism, in Pakistan, it is a reality lived every day.
A recent video circulating on social media captured such a moment: Major Adnan of the SSG Commandos throwing himself on top of his wounded comrade to shield him from terrorist fire during a clearing operation in Bannu. The footage has rightly gone viral, for it illustrates not only extraordinary courage but also the deep loyalty to comrades and to the nation that Pakistan’s elite soldiers carry into battle. Such acts must be celebrated and remembered across the country whenever they occur.
This incident also underscores the nature of Pakistan’s ongoing struggle: a daily fight against insurgents pushed across the border, funded and abetted by foreign elements and the Afghan Taliban’s collusion. While Pakistan maintains a military strong enough to deter India, the war against the Taliban is fought in the alleys and fields—man to man, face to face, in brutal close combat. This is work of the highest bravery, and the sacrifices made demand recognition, honoured without hesitation or condition.
Pakistan’s soldiers stand as a shield against all external enemies. It is our duty to honour their courage, their sacrifice, and their unyielding defence of the nation.
