After the final withdrawal of US troops at Kabul airport, the Taliban have declared victory, saying that ‘Afghanistan is independent and free now’
The final US flight fled from Kabul airport just after Tuesday midnight.
Gunfire was also recorded outside the Kabul airport, as pro-Taliban forces celebrated victory.
On the other hand, US Secretary of States Antony Blinken has said that ‘ A new chapter of America’s engagement has begun’
UK Foreign Secretary has said that London’s evacuation process from Afghanistan was a success, despite the fact that there are still hundreds of British nationals in Afghanistan.
According to BBC, he said that “We’ve been bringing together the MOD [Ministry of Defence] teams, not just the forces on the ground, but the civilians, the Home Office teams and there’s been a great job done.”
On Tuesday midnight, Taliban fighters quickly swept into the airport and fired weapons into the sky across the city in jubilation — an astonishing return after US forces invaded in 2001 and toppled them for supporting Al-Qaeda.
“Congratulations to Afghanistan… this victory belongs to us all,” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told reporters hours later on the runway of the airport.
Mujahid said the Taliban’s victory was a “lesson for other invaders”.
