‘big relief’ challenged

Granting exemption from tax to the military officers and bureaucrats in budget by the government has been challenged in Lahore High Court.
Citizen Mashkoor Hussain has filed the petition through Nadim Sarwar advocate making federal government and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) respondents.
The citizen has taken plea in his petition that federal government has given big relief to bureaucracy and military officers in the budget. Military officers and bureaucracy have been exempted from paying tax on selling the property.
The petitioner said all the citizens are equal as per constitution. Exemption from tax runs contrary to article 2 of the constitution.
The citizen requested the court to declare illegal section 236 C of income tax ordinance through finance act amendment besides staying the implementation of section 236-C till the final decision of the case.
