KARACHI: Student enrolment at The Citizens Foundation (TCF) has increased to 343,000 in 2025–26, up from 320,000 the previous year, as the organisation continues to expand its education network across Pakistan. According to its latest figures, TCF operates 2,342 school units nationwide, supported by a teaching workforce of 17,500 women. Since its establishment in 1995, 79,400 students have graduated from its schools. News Desk
The impact of its work is reflected in the achievements of graduates such as Kulsoom Afzal from Lasbela, Balochistan. After returning to education in Grade 5 following financial difficulties, she secured the highest marks in her district in the Intermediate examinations. She is now among Lasbela’s first female civil engineers and is pursuing a master’s degree at NED University.
In Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mohammad Owais Khan has combined his interest in technology with entrepreneurship. With scholarship support from TCF, he enrolled at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan to study Computer Science. Alongside his studies, he established Xora Solutions, an IT company that has grown into a team of eight, creating employment opportunities in his hometown.
TCF President and CEO Zia Akhter Abbas said the organisation’s success should be measured not only by the number of students enrolled but also by what they achieve after graduation.
“Enrolment tells us how many children we reach. What matters just as much is what they go on to do with that education. We want our students to keep learning, make informed choices, support themselves and their families, and contribute positively to their communities,” he said.
Beyond formal schooling, TCF’s Aagahi Adult Literacy Programme has reached 337,000 learners, primarily women who missed the opportunity to attend school earlier in life.
Founded in 1995 by a group of citizens, TCF has established schools in underserved rural and urban communities across Pakistan, with girls accounting for nearly half of its student enrolment.
As it enters its 31st year, the organisation continues to focus on expanding educational access and creating opportunities for individuals to contribute to their families and communities through education.
