The Peshawar University Teachers Association (PUTA) has formally appealed to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, to take immediate steps for the issuance of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to advertise vacant faculty positions at the University. The association has warned that failure to address this issue will compel faculty members to launch protests.
In a recent meeting, PUTA members expressed deep concern over the prolonged delays in faculty promotions, which have left many teachers in a state of uncertainty.
The association stated that several faculty members of the University of Peshawar (UoP) have retired without receiving their rightful promotions, while others have opted to leave the university for better career prospects, leading to a brain drain that was adversely impacting the institution’s academic standards.
Despite the Chief Minister’s public commitment and explicit directives during the inauguration of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, the Higher Education Department (HED) has yet to issue the necessary NOC.
The teachers lamented that bureaucratic hurdles and the indifferent attitude of certain officials have exacerbated their frustration.
PUTA has urged the Chief Minister to intervene personally and instruct the HED to issue the NOCs without further delay.
They emphasized that the prompt advertisement of vacant positions was crucial for ensuring fair promotions, retaining qualified faculty, and maintaining the university’s academic integrity.
If the demands were not met, PUTA warned of intensified protests, highlighting the urgency of resolving this matter to safeguard the future of higher education at the UoP.
