The district administration has increased the prices of meat, mince, rice, sweets and biscuits and other daily commodities items ahead of Ramadan.
The huge increase in prices of food items before Ramadan has shocked the public. According to the new price list issued with the signatures of the Deputy Commissioner Mardan and the Food Controller, the price of goat meat per kilogram has been increased by 600 rupees to Rs 1900 instead of Rs 1300.
Similarly, buffalo meat has been increased by Rs 100 to Rs 800 per kilogram, while beef has been increased by Rs 150 to a new price of Rs 850 per kilogram, while minced meat has been increased by Rs 210 to Rs 1000 per kilogram instead of 790 rupees.
Similarly, the price of sweets has been increased by 180 to 850 rupees per kilogram, while the price of biscuits has also been increased by Rs 180 to Rs 750 per kilogram instead of 570 rupees.
This is the second increase in the prices of sweets and biscuits in eight months.
The price of rice and other daily commodities has also increased.
The sharp increase in the prices of these items has raised concerns among the public. Akram khan , a resident, said that the huge increase in daily necessities before the holy month of Ramadan, instead of providing relief to the people, is incomprehensible.
The residents have demanded that the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa pay attention to this and immediately investigate the Mardan administration’s move to increase inflation.
Meanwhile, Mardan Press Club President and Price Review Committee member Riaz Mayar says that he was present at the Price Review Committee meeting chaired by the Additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Saeedullah Jan three days ago and the prices have been increased without taking approval from the committee.
