Lahore : Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar has said that those who oppose electoral reforms are becoming supporters of rigging and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government wants transparent elections on which no one can raise any objection.
Talking to a delegation led by PTI MNA Sadaqat Ali Abbasi and Haji Muhammad Ramzan at Governor House on Wednesday, he discussed political issues besides corona situation of the country.
Governor Punjab said that opposition always talks about rigging, and today the government is ready for electoral reforms to ensure transparency and fairness in the election process in the country, but the opposition is now climbing down.
He said opposition should support the government instead of obstructing electoral reforms, adding the government ordinance to give the right to vote to overseas Pakistanis with e-polling is a historic step.
The government under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan is taking practical steps to ensure transparency and merit in every field, he maintained. Democracy, parliament and all institutions will be strengthened, he asserted.
Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar said that transparent elections would strengthen democracy and parliament in the country. With e-polling, election results would be in front of everyone in just a few minutes, he added.
He mentioned that the opposition should give priority to national interest instead of personal and political interests as opposition has also a responsibility to play its role in moving the country forward with the government.
Chaudhry Sarwar strongly condemned the firing incident on soldiers of Frontier Corps (FC) from Afghanistan and said that Pakistan has sacrificed the most in the war against terrorism.
He said that nation salutes their martyrs who sacrificed their lives against terrorism. The time has come for the Afghanistan government to fulfill its responsibility by eradicate terrorism and take stern action against those who are destroying peace in the region.
