CHARSADDA: Caretaker minister for irrigation Haji Fazal-e-Elahi has directed the quarter concerned to ensure timely water supply to farmers from Munda Headworks for the season Kharif, saying steps should be taken for resolving the water supply problems being faced by the farmers. He issued this instruction on Wednesday during his visit to district Charsadda to review water supply from Munda Headworks. Chief Engineer South Yasin Khan, Superintending Engineer Peshawar Batoor Zaman Khan, Xen Imranullah and other relevant officials were also present on the occasion. During the visit, provincial minister Haji Fazl Elahi reviewed the ongoing work on Tatoon Bridge and Munda Headworks and issued instructions for early completion of the ongoing works. Mr Elahi on this occasion also reviewed the ongoing development work on the temporary dam at Munda Headworks. He appreciated the work of construction of a temporary dam and termed the project important for the agriculture sector of the district. The minister was informed that those vast areas of Charsadda and Mardan district are irrigated through Munda Headworks which was built in 1890. He said that agriculture plays an important role in the country’s economy and the provincial government was taking effective steps to support the farmers and boost the productivity of different crops. Lower Swat canals irrigate the vast areas of Charsadda and Mardan, he added and said that damages caused by the last year floods to canals were rehabilitated in record times and no stone would be left unturned to streamline the irrigation system of the province.
