Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei has warned that US President Donald Trump’s actions could prompt more countries to seek nuclear weapons, while saying Washington has told regional states it wants to leave the region, Iranian state television reported.
Referring to the Makkah agreement, Rezaei said the United States had informed regional countries that it wanted to leave the region. He also said Washington had expected to end the war within days and seize control of Iran’s oil and gas resources.
Rezaei claimed the conflict had rendered 1,200 oil tankers unusable, putting 15% of the global tanker fleet out of service. He further warned that any US contact with groups opposed to Iran’s Islamic Revolution would trigger attacks, without specifying where such attacks would take place.
Rezaei said Iran would also change its approach to warfare based on lessons from the conflict. “We will use the experiences of the war with America in the next war,” he said.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi has accused Western governments of knowingly supporting Israel despite their stated concerns over the situation in Palestine.
Responding on X to a statement by more than 100 former Western diplomats urging their governments to “uphold international law in Palestine”, Gharibabadi said Britain and France should not limit their response to expressions of concern. “London and Paris should not hide behind the phrase ‘expressing concern’ from this situation,” he wrote.
“Continuing to send weapons and providing any kind of support to the regime is a deliberate choice for collaboration and participation in the commission of crimes by the Zionist regime,” Gharibabadi added.
The signatories to the letter included former British ambassadors to the United Nations and former Middle East directors at France’s Foreign Ministry. They called on their governments to work together to uphold international law in the Palestinian territories.
