KOHAT: A two day special anti-polio campaign is being launched today (Thursday) in Bannu and North Waziristan, the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa(KP). According to Emergency Operation Center KP has decided to launch a two-day special anti-polio drive in Bannu and North Waziristan districts today (Thursday). The decision was taken after the first polio case of the year 2022 was reported in Mirali Tehsil of North Waziristan tribal district few days ago. It may be recalled that a polio case has been reported in KP after 21 months which was a proof that continuous anti-polio campaigns have helped in controlling the virus. “About a week ago, on April 22, 2022, the Pakistan National Polio Laboratory at the National Institutes of Health confirmed the polio case from North Waziristan”, told the sources, adding that Pakistan and Afghanistan are two countries in the world where the polio virus is still present”.
