The two day 15th Undergraduate Medical Research (UMR) conference organized by Peshawar Medical and Dental Colleges concluded here at PMC main campus. Student researchers from 25 medical and dental colleges across the country participated in the conference.
Prof. Dr. Shoaib Shafi President of the College of Physicians & Surgeons, Pakistan presided over the plenary session on the second day, while Prof. Dr. Anis Ahmad vice chancellor Riphah International University, Islamabad was the chief guest at the concluding session and gave away prizes to the winners of various research competitions, students and staff organizers of the event.
Prof. Dr. Shoaib Shafi appreciated the successful and uninterrupted holding of the unique event since 2007 to the day and specifically hailed the idea of research rotations as something unparalleled that required replication all over the country. He said that research experience allows undergraduate students to better understand published works, learn to balance collaborative and individual work, determine an area of interest, and jump start their careers as researchers.
Prof. Dr. Anis Ahmad in his concluding speech stressed upon the participants that as Muslim scientists, educators and health service providers they need to rise beyond the glamor of fame, wealth and power to keenly and realistically serve the human-kind as a means to seek the pleasure of Almighty for lasting peace of mind here and unending success in the hereafter. He congratulated the conference organizers and hoped that this culture of research orientation would definitely bring fruits in the future endeavors of the young undergraduate researchers.
In the conference students actively participated in the posters and verbal competitions as well as another very interesting videography competition also took place and there were various prizes for each category in each competition which were distributed by the chief guest of the concluding session amongst the winners, runner ups and third position holders.
