Amun Taraqqi Party chairman Muhammad Faiq Shah said mystery is still shrouded over holding of general elections.
Shah in a statement on Saturday stressed the need for fixing the date of elections and leaving the decision to the nation. He suggested simultaneous conduct of elections in all provinces and Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan so that rights should be ensured on equitable and balanced grounds.
He warned undue delay in elections may cause further damage to the country.
While keeping in view the prevalent scenario, he urged the ruling coalition government to make ‘Charter of Democracy’ instead of ‘Charter of Economy’. Fix the date of transparent election and leave the decision to the nation, he added. He said that if the political conflict increases, the politicians will also be on the target, the delay in the election will be the death of democracy.
Faiq was of the view that inflation had broken all records, adding that such a situation would prove the last nail in the coffin of the coalition government.
He said the international community was worried about Pakistan but rulers were restricted to only cosmetic steps.
Noting that there were no positive vibes from the IMF, he said the country was heading towards collapse.
Shah said now the whole responsibility had fallen on the shoulders of institutions and urged them to play a role to end the prolonged political and economic stagnation in the country. He emphasized dialogue is the only path to end the present crisis.
He called upon the all political parties and stakeholders to set together and jointly announce a unanimous date/scheduled for general elections. Also, he asserted reforms in the Election Commission are inevitable to end intervention of pressure, corruption and use of money in the electoral process. He said a fully independent ECP is vital for holding free, fair and transparent polls in the country.
