PESHAWAR
A special capacity-building session on the upgraded Water Quality Management Information System (WQMIS) was organized for officers of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the aim of further strengthening the system for monitoring drinking water quality and improving data management.
According to the official statement on Monday, the training session was organized by UNOPS Pakistan under the project “Enhancing Functionality and Capacity of the Water Quality MIS,” with the support of KOICA Pakistan, to enhance the capacity of the Public Health Engineering Department in monitoring, analyzing and managing water quality-related data.
A total of 20 senior officers, including Chief Engineers and Superintending Engineers of PHED, participated in the training session. The participants were provided with detailed orientation on various features of the upgraded WQMIS and its practical application.
During the session, participants were given hands-on demonstrations of the live dashboard, data monitoring and other key features of the system. The officers were also briefed on how to effectively access, organize, monitor and analyze water quality information through the system for improved management and evidence-based decision-making.
In the closing ceremony, UNOPS Pakistan Programme Manager Ms. Sameera Zaib and Secretary Public Health Engineering Department Masood Younas participated as guests of honour and appreciated the initiative aimed at strengthening the department’s digital capacity.
Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary PHED emphasized the importance of effectively utilizing modern digital systems to improve departmental performance, transparency and the monitoring of drinking water quality.
He urged the participating officers to make full and effective use of the upgraded WQMIS for timely monitoring and analysis of water quality data and to further strengthen the department’s overall water quality management mechanism. At the conclusion of the training session, certificates were distributed among the participating officers.
