PESHAWAR
The Department of Economics at the University of Peshawar on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding with the State Bank of Pakistan Banking Services Corporation (SBP-BSC), Peshawar, to promote financial literacy, inclusion, research collaboration and student capacity building.
The ceremony was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Johar Ali, while Deputy Chief Manager SBP-BSC Naimatullah Khan represented the central bank. Director Planning and Development Engr Atta Hussain Bangash and Additional Director Dr Gohar Rehman were also present.
Chairman of the Department of Economics Dr Sajjad Ahmad Jan said the university had a long-standing association with the State Bank and expressed confidence that the new agreement would further strengthen institutional ties.
Officials of the State Bank described collaboration with educational institutions as vital for enhancing financial awareness and advancing financial inclusion in the country.
Under the agreement, the two sides will cooperate in areas including agricultural financing, small and medium enterprise financing, Islamic banking, digital financial initiatives, women’s financial inclusion, and organisation of joint seminars, research projects and student internship programmes.
The vice chancellor welcomed the initiative and expressed hope that it would contribute to research, informed policymaking and practical training opportunities for students.
