Islamabad (Online): The US is encouraging Pakistan to boost its exports including fruits and vegetables to American markets.
This was said US Embassy Agricultural Counselor David Williams while addressing officials of Department of Plant Protection and other agricultural officials who attended a tw-day training programme organized by the USAID to support Pakistan’s efforts to expand agricultural trade, said a press release on Monday.
The counselor said that the training aimed to increase Pakistani exports by informing officials how to comply with international plant health standards. Pakistan currently exports approximately $585 million of fresh fruits and vegetables annually.
Dr. Muhammad Anjum Ali, Director General for Extension and Adaptive Research in the Punjab Agriculture Department said, learning about sanitary and phyto-sanitary measures from a team of USDA, Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International, and other learned experts was a unique experience.
This training session was the latest step in a broader collaboration to enhance agricultural productivity in Pakistan and to support economic growth and food security.
