Islamabad (Online): E-learning ‘Accessibility Centers’ for visually impaired students will start working at AIOU’s 44 regional offices within a month.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said that after successfully running a pilot project here at the University’s main campus, the idea of establishing the same at the regional offices is now being implemented on fast-track basis.
He said a Regional Libraries’ Coordination office has also been established here in the main Campus for the coordination and monitoring of country-wide libraries and accessibility Centers’ network. First accessibility center was inaugurated by vice chancellor Shahid Siddique at the regional level in Multan to meet the needs of handicapped students from South Punjab.
He said while inauguration that this aimed at attending the needs of marginalized section of the society. “All the libraries will be linked with the Central library in Islamabad that will be equipped with more than 4,000 digital research-based resources”. He added.
Siddique said that students will be able to access digital resources, e-Books, research articles, journals, theses and course material of all academic programs free-of-cost.
Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said special focus was being laid on developing libraries for research purposes and bringing the University’s learning standard at par with international standard. A training session for the librarians will be arranged here next month for their professional development.
The VC also announced that scan copies of text books will also be made available soon on intent for the benefit of their 1.3 million students across the country.
