Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Nad Pakistan Muslim League-Q’s joint candidate Wasiq Qayyum Saturday elected Punjab Assembly’s deputy speakers unopposed.
Wasiq was the only candidate who submitted the nomination papers for the deputy speaker slot as the opposition alliance failed to pitch their candidate till the deadline. The deputy speaker’s slot fell vacant after a successful no-trust motion ousted Dost Muhammad Mazari from the office, who took sides with the PML-N and its allied parties during the recent constitutional crisis in the country. Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and allies on Saturday boycotted the Punjab deputy speaker’s election. The development comes a day after PTI and PML-Q joint candidate Sibtain Khan became the Punjab Assembly speaker by defeating the opposition’s candidate Malik Khokhar. It is pertinent to mention that PML-N and allies took the nomination papers but failed to submit them.
