World Health Organization (WHO) representative for Pakistan Dr Palitha Mahipala on Wednesday visited different flood-hit areas of Swat district where he met with the flood-affected families and also administered polio drops to children.
Dr Palitha Mahipala on this occasion said that WHO has carried out a comprehensive rapid assessment of 13 flood-affected districts of KP, adding the organization was providing support to provincial health department for emergency response to people reeling from floods and in dire need of health facilities.
DHO Swat Dr Muhammad Saleem Khan accompanied WHO representative for Pakistan.
Dr Palitha Mahipala handed over medicines to the District Health Officer, Swat, for the flood victims and visited the health centers of Matta and Madin, flood affected areas.
During the visit, he administered polio vaccine to the children and also met the patients and children in the hospital.
The delegation was given a detailed briefing on the flood disaster in Swat and the performance and needs of the health department on behalf of the district health department.
He said that WHO has completed a rapid assessment for 13 flood-affected districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
On the occasion of the visit, the representative of WHO said that the WHO was providing support to the Department of Health in emergency response, including the supply of medicines, professional services and other equipment.
At the end of the visit, the delegation also inaugurated the Emergency Operation Center located at DHO Office Swat.
