ISLAMABAD
Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Friday clarified he will contest future elections on his party PML-N’s ticket, local media reported.
Responding to the news of his differences with party leadership, the PML-N’s former central vice president said he would always remain a worker of the ruling PML-N party, despite resigning from the party office.
Khaqan has recently resigned as PML-N’s senior vice president, citing his reason of ‘maximizing working room for newly appointed Central Vice President – Maryam Nawaz Sharif’.
Media however has constantly been reporting that Khaqan resigned because of his differences with party leadership.
“Maryam Nawaz has just attained a leadership’s position in party and she needs space [to work],” Khaqan said while talking to media on Friday.
“Every political party has its own way of working. When newcomers take over parties, the old chaps have to readjust their roles,” he said.
“I have spent whole life with party. I still stand with PML-N and will contest coming general elections on PML-N’s ticket,” Khaqan said.
