PESHAWAR
The Winter Games under the aegis of the Directorate General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the collaboration of District Administration Upper Chitral, District Sports Office Chitral, got under way on Saturday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Upper Chitral Fidal Malik was the chief guest on this occasion who formally inaugurated the Winter Games with the Ice Hockey Championship at Ice Hockey Ground fully covered by heavy snow. Deputy Director Operation Jamshed Khan Baloch, Assistant Commissioner Adnan, Additional AC Mastuj Naveed Ahmed, Additional AC Mor Kahu Rabnawaz Khan, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Mastuj Mohiuddin, DSO Chitral Lower Amir Zaman, DSO Upper Chitral Usman and other personalities were present.
The ceremony started with the recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the National Anthem, Gliding, cultural music, and jeep rally competitions are being held. For the first time in the history of Pakistan, ice hockey competitions are being held under floodlights.
Deputy Commissioner Upper Chitral Muhammad Ali Khan lit the torch. The Games will continue for five days.
The closing ceremony of the Games will be held on January 31, 2023. Secretary Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Captain (R) Mushtaq Ahmed will grace the occasion as guest at the final and prize distribution ceremony.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Upper Chitral Fidal Malik appreciated the efforts for organizing the best competitions and assured that such events will continue and the players here will shine not only nationally but also at international level as well.
