PESHAWAR: With the excessive usage of heroines and other life-risking drugs, youth mostly students are being attracted to methamphetamine or ICE without knowing its harms including sleeplessness and overjoyed feelings for nothing.Sources requesting anonymity told this scribe that ‘ice’ was being smuggled to Peshawar from remote and prohibited tribal areas bordering Afghanistan. They added that policemen and custom officials manning those routes were unable to trace as it usually kept in hidden cavities of vehicles as it smells different than other drugs and chemicals.
The sources revealed that there were some dealers in prohibited areas in the tribal agencies who provide these ‘sweet poison’ to students by using cars and motorbikes under the nose of law enforcement agencies.
The sources informed that one gram ice is sold on Rs.1500 to 3000 according to its growing demand among the students and teenagers. One of the addicted students pleading not to be named took this scribe to a music party where numbers of other students including medical students were taking ice and the police remained unaware of the whole development.
He said that rapid smuggling of methamphetamine or ice resulted in rise in usage of these fatal drugs among the youth without any checking from districtadministration, police, drug regulators and customs authorities.
It is pertinent to mention that a huge quantity of ice has been recovered from some of medical stores in the provincial capital during a crackdown in the recent past but the case was forwarded to anti-narcotics department for taking action but to no avail.
