Fourteen newborns who died in a fire at the the nursery of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) have been laid to rest.
14 newborns were killed on Wednesday after a fire broke out on the third floor of the Mother and Child Hospital’s ward at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital.
According to RESCUE authorities there were 15 newborns in nursery when fire broke out and lady doctor could recue only one .
According to hospital documents the identification of deceased new born infants have come to light. Twins of one citizen Bahadar also died in the incident.
According to RESCUE authorities fire brigade vehicles extinguished the fire. Later the process of cooling continued. 19 persons including women have been rescued.
All the technical staff appointed in children ward has been suspended. 14 deceased infants children have been laid to rest.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Saudi Arabia’s condemnation of the fatal fire at a children’s hospital in Islamabad, which resulted in the deaths of at least 14 newborns.

UNICEF said it is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of at least 14 newborn lives following a fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital in Islamabad today.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and all those affected by this devastating incident.
“Every newborn deserves a safe start to life, and every mother and child should be able to receive care in a safe, secure health facility.
“UNICEF calls for the urgent review and strengthening of fire prevention and safety standards across health facilities, to ensure that every mother and child can receive the care they need in a safe environment.”
