PESHAWAR: The district administration has sealed 18 marble factories along Warsak Road for failing to install filtration plants, allowing untreated wastewater from marble cutting to flow into drains and nearby canals. According to a spokesperson for the Peshawar district administration, the discharge of untreated water had frequently blocked drainage channels, affected agricultural production and contributed to environmental pollution. The spokesperson said wastewater from the factories also flowed onto roads in several areas, causing inconvenience to residents and commuters. The factory owners had previously been served notices directing them to install filtration plants in accordance with the environmental regulations. However, they failed to comply with the instructions, prompting the district administration to seal the units. The administration said the action was taken to prevent environmental pollution, protect agricultural land and ensure compliance with environmental standards. DLP Report
