2,300kg of China salt, unsafe meat in Peshawar, Nowshera

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety & Halal Food Authority (KPFS&HFA) has conducted major enforcement operations in Peshawar and Nowshera, recovering 2,300 kilograms of banned China salt and unsafe meat, and initiating strict legal action against those involved in jeopardizing public health. According to a spokesperson for the Food Authority, acting on tip off, the Peshawar food safety team carried out a surprise raid on a warehouse located on Ashraf Road, Peshawar, where approximately 800 kilograms of banned China salt were seized. The recovered stock was taken into official custody, heavy fines were imposed on the owners, and further legal proceedings were set in motion. In a separate operation, the Nowshera food safety team raided a shop in Pabbi Bazaar, recovering nearly 1,500 kilograms of stale, contaminated and unfit-for-human-consumption meat and chicken parts. The seized items were discarded on the spot in accordance with hygiene and disposal protocols. The premises were sealed, an FIR was lodged against the owners, and additional legal action is underway. Commenting on the operations, Director General KP Food Safety & Halal Food Authority, Wasif Saeed commended the performance of the enforcement teams and issued a stern warning to those endangering human lives. Wasif emphasized that no compromise would be made on public health and that food safety laws would be enforced without discrimination.
The Director General further stated that inspection drives and enforcement activities across the province would be intensified to ensure the provision of safe, hygienic and quality food to the public.
