Islamabad : The Pakistan People Party’s vice president, senator Sherry Rehman said two members of Election Commission (EC) have been retired from service on completion of their service tenure and appointment of two new members in place of these retired members within 45 days is constitutional requirement.
She said this in a statement issued here Tuesday.
According to the constitution, Prime Minister should finalize the appointments in 45 days in consultation with the opposition leader. The PTI government failed to appoint any member from Sindh and Baluchistan for one year.
In the past PTI government also ignored the constitutional procedure for the appointment of commissioners.
She said that appointments in constitutional key institution are made when the government forges consensus with the opposition, while the Prime Minister does not sit with the opposition on national issues.
