Govt to focus on out of the school children: Education minister

Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood on Wednesday said that the federal government in coordination with the provinces would launch a project for disadvantaged districts to upgrade infrastructure, to focus on out of school children and to reduce the learning poverty.
Shafqat Mehmood was virtually addressing the launching ceremony of COVID-19 Learning Losses Report in Islamabad on Wednesday.
He said learning poverty, according to World Bank study, is 75 percent in Pakistan and is the real challenge for us and the COVID-19 pandemic has further exacerbated the situation.
Shafqat Mahmoodsaid the report has drawn our attention towards serious educational issues and it will help us in our policy making.
The education minister said to meet the COVID challenge, the federal education ministry had started a dedicated TV channel, ‘TeleSchool’ just in fifteen days of the first school closure and according to this report 32 percent children watching this channel is good initiation.
He also highlighted the teachers training program, Waseela-e-Taleem Programme and enhancing the internet connectivity throughout the country by the government.
