New Covid variant extremely dangerous: Asad Umar

Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar on Monday said that new variant of coronavirus is spreading all over the world and it will come to Pakistan and we need to reduce the risk by vaccinating as much as possible in next 3 weeks.
After a meeting at the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), while addressing a press conference along with SAPM Faisal Sultan, said that the new variant of corona virus has emerged in South Africa, which is extremely dangerous and has spread to other countries.
He said that the spread of the corona virus in the country has been very low for several weeks now due to vaccination and so far about 50 million people in the country have been fully vaccinated while 30 million people have been given a single dose of the vaccine.
Asad Umar further said that government is taking steps to control the spread of variant in the country. He while announcing a big vaccination campaign in coming two to three days, urged masses to get vaccinated against the virus.
He said that the arrival of passengers from the affected countries has been banned but further steps are being taken in this regard to control the new strain of the virus.
He acknowledged that the virus could be prevented for some time by taking all necessary steps, but that it would continue to spread throughout the world because the world was so intertwined that it was impossible to stop it.
Umar said vaccinated individuals will be able to mitigate the effect of the virus, adding that provinces have been urged to step up the inoculation rate.
Asad Umar said Covid testing will be increased and vaccination campaign will be boosted to avoid any adverse effects of the new variant. He said booster vaccine program will be finalized till tomorrow.
