Chairman, Amun Taraqqi Party (ATP) Muhammad Faiq Shah has said a comprehensive training and legislation are imperative for police reforms and abolishment of primitive policing system ‘Thana Culture’.
Faiq while talking to legal experts and members of lawyers fraternity here at the party’s central secretariat on Wednesday said the rulers didn’t materialize their commitment regarding removal of ‘Thana Culture’.
He went on to say that the present policing system, environment in prison and laws were allegedly giving protection of criminals and instigating them on more crimes instead of amelioration.
There prevail two laws, one for powerful and other for weakened people, which gave birth to hatred and contempt or lack of respect by a feeling of intense dislike, he noted.
Mr Shah emphasized it is needed to take measures for conduct of moral, physical and professional training of police force in order to remove hate and revulsion between police and general masses.
He stressed that reforms in Punjab and Sindh police are crucial to mitigate sufferings of people of these provinces.
The ATP chairman asked all institutions to organise a joint training program and to make work on an emergent basis quick dispensation of justice.
He maintained it is an unfortunate fact that convicts in prisons were not further pursued toward criminal activities instead of their improvement that’s a major hurdle in elimination of crimes and behavior change of the offenders.
He said steps for conducting special training and legislation are inevitable in order to alter the present primitive system.
In this regard, he recalled that his party has already given a holistic strategy and line of action, which needs to be implemented with letter and spirit.
