Federal Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment of Women Kashmala Tariq Monday said that women face most problems in Pakistan due to lack of property and inheritance rights so the women parliamentarians must raise voice in their favor.
She said this during media briefing after a meeting held in Tahir Qazi Hall at KP Assembly. Speaker KP Assembly Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani, Deputy Speaker Mahmood Jan, Provincial Ombudsperson Rakhshanda Naz and women parliamentarians were present on the occasion.
Kashmala Tariq said that women were being harassed at workplace but the victims remain silent, adding such people should be highlighted and action should be taken against them.
She said that if a person is blackmailing a female on social media, it is also called harassment. She said that women are harassed by certain message including romantic poetry, greeting messages.
Kashmala Tariq said that women should be included in decision making at every forum of government including executive for incorporation of their opinion in policies.
She said that women’s inheritance laws have been passed in KP and other provinces must follow it. She said that if a female employee feels insecure at office, her forum is here to provide justice.
Kashmala said federal and provincial ombudsmen are working together to resolve the problems confronted by women in the country. According to law, women’s issues are resolved within two months which was commendable, she added.
Speaker KP Assembly Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani appreciated the work of Ombudsman and ensured ful support of the provincial assembly.
He said that Islam has given fully right to women and parliamentarians are responsible to make legislations in this regard.
He said that women have been given public representation in KP Assembly and a women caucus is fully operational in the province to resolve women problems.
