Rigging allegations case: Imran Khan, NADRA, Election commission put on notice

Supreme Court (SC) has issued notices to Imran Khan, NADRA and Election Commission on the petition filed by former speaker National Assembly (NA) Ayyaz Sadiq pertaining to rigging charges against him in NA-122 during 2013 general election.

A 3-member bench of SC presided over by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial took up the case for hearing Thursday.

The petitioner took the plea during the hearing of the case that “ I was subjected to character assassination due to charges of rigging. I was called liar. I had to hear several remarks being speaker. The impression of my involvement in rigging in polls was created .

The CJP inquired “did you suffer defeat in the election after all this.

Ayyaz Sadiq said he won the polls. I have never lost the election. This is a political issue.

The CJP remarked the petitioner is highly sensitive person. Election-2013 and its period have expired. This matter is now finished. Much betterment has come due to Election Act-2017. Election commission has done much work too. We have issued notice to respondents. We will hear this matter soon.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar remarked “ Ayyaz Sadiq Sahb you are very sensitive. The law of defamation is very clear. If you have been subjected to character assassination then file defamation case.

The hearing of the case was adjourned for indefinite period.
