Secretary Health Tahir Orakzai has shown commitment that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) would eradicate polio from the province inspite of all challenges.
Secretary Health KP kicked off the polio eradication campaign by administering polio drops to some children at Police Services Hospital Peshawar here on Monday.
In this connection, Chief Secretary KP Kamran Khan Bagash while addressing a meeting of the Provincial Task Force, said that despite all the challenges that stand in the way of polio, the provincial government was committed to eradicate the polio virus.
He said that available resources have been utilized to achieve the target in the ongoing polio campaign.
The Secretary Health said that 7285,797 children under the age of five will be vaccinated against polio during this anti-polio campaign.
Mr Orakzai appealed to the parents to ensure the cooperation of parents with polio workers in the anti-polio campaign starting from Monday so that our children would be safe from this contagious disease.
According to the statement, polio virus types one and two have been eradicated from all over the world while WPV one has seen a historic decline this year.
30,981 teams of trained polio workers have been formed for the anti-polio campaign including 27,763 mobile, 1,908 fixed, 1,161 transit and 149 roaming teams.
Additionally, 7,481 area in-charges have been deployed for effective monitoring of these teams.
40,000 police personnel have been deployed for the security of mothers.
“The government is continuing its efforts for the complete eradication of the virus, but parents must vaccinate their children against polio in every campaign,” he added.
Pakistan and Afghanistan There are two countries where the polio virus is still present.
Until the virus is completely eradicated, there is a risk of disability in children, he added.
