Promoting squash at grass root level can help regain past glory at int’l level: Macha

Zubair Macha, GM, Combaxx Sports, has said that by promoting squash at grass root level can help the country produce world class players once again and regain past glory in squash, where Pakistan ruled for decades and remained unbeatable in the past.
Speaking as chief guest at the concluding ceremony of Combaxx Sports Karachi Squash Open 2022 here at PN Roshan Khan Jahangir Khan Squash Complex Karachi, Mr Macha said that Pakistani youth are extremely talented and what is needed is to unearth this talent by providing ample opportunities and sports infrastructure to them at grass root level so that new talent can emerge and make to the top.
He said that the event was aimed at exploring new talent. It was an open event where boys and girls could play in various age categories.
Guest of Honour OIC Lt Commander Rehmatullah was all praise for the Combaxx sports for their support to squash events and said that by holding such championships on regular basis, Pakistan can produce legendary players like Jahangir Khan once again.
“There is no dearth in squash talent in the country, only efforts are needed to find and shine that talent by giving them ample exposure and training to become at par with international players and make to the top of squash world once again.
Media Advisor POA Mr Asif Azeem also spoke on the occasion and lauded the holding of such an event in a successful manner. He said that the overwhelming participation of boys and girls in the championship is an ample proof of squash inclination among the youth and stressed the need for holding more such for the young lot to attract them to constructive activities.
Earlier, in the U-13 boys’ category, Huzaifa Shahid beat Abdul Ahad 3-1 while in the Boys Under-15 matches, Abdul Basit outplayed Zohaib 3-1 in a contest that lasted for eighteen minutes.
The Girls Under-19 category was won by Aina Sheikh who outclassed Aina Aziz in three straight sets (3-0) in just 12 minutes. The Boys Under 19 title winners was young talented Anas beating M Ali 3-1.
