PDMA sends relief packages for flood-hit areas of KP

CM-KP closely monitoring relief operations across province: DG-PDMA

On the instructions of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has sent a special relief package to the flood affected districts of the province. According to DG-PDMA Sharief Hussain, 35 trucks loaded with relief goods and food items have been sent to Dera Ismail Khan and 9 trucks of relief goods have been sent to Upper Chitral.
DG-PDMA stated that additional 2000 tents, 2000 mattresses, 2000 tarpaulin sheets and 2000 food packages were sent to the districts where rain and heavy floods have damaged infrastructure and houses.
The food items dispatched to the districts for people included wheat, milk powder, pulses, rice, ghee, chilli powder, sugar and tea. 200 tents, 400 mats, 350 blankets, 50 kitchen sets, 200 plastic mats, 200 hygiene kits, 300 quilts, 150 buckets to the district administration of Upper Chitral, he added.
Mr Sharif said that the provincial government was in close coordination with the concerned district administrations and CM-KP was closely monitoring the ongoing emergency and relief operations in DI Khan, Chitral and Kohistan.
Heavy rains and floods have caused severe damages to several houses, business, crops and communication systems in Swat, Dir and Dera Ismail Khan. The ongoing monsoon rains have triggered flash floods in Jambil and Marghazar streams of Swat district.
According to a report issued by the Commissioner Malakand, heavy downpour has damaged around 100 houses, swept away more than50 animals and entered hundreds of houses in Landaykas, Makan Bagh, Mulla Baba, Amankot, Qambar, Bangladesh, Marghazar Town and other areas. Shops, schools, hotels, newly-established hockey stadiums and the press club building were flooded in Mingora.
So far, continuous torrential rains in Upper Dir and Swat have killed six children and injured nine people. Commissioner Malakand division, Shaukat Ali, in a statement told media that relief operations across the division have been in place and all resources would be utilized to provide protection to people from flood and heavy rains.
