Opposition women lawmakers seek more budgets for girl’s education in KP

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Women lawmakers, associated with different opposition political parties, demanded the government to increase allocations for the girl’s education.
Women lawmakers said that “as per the statistics of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) over 4.7 million children are out of schools, of which 2.9 million are girls”.
At a press conference in Peshawar Press Club (PPP) Jamat-e-Ulema Islam Fazal (JUI-F) woman MPA Naeema Kishwar said that the provincial should focused on the girl’s education and suggestion submitted by the opposition should be implemented as soon as possible.
Women lawmakers claimed that “opposition parties have recently conducted a detailed review of education department schemes in the annual development budget. The provincial education department was given several suggestions for bringing betterment in girl’s education. The department was urged to incorporate more schemes for girls in the ongoing ADP schemes”.
They also demanded the provincial government to allocate more resources for the health, hygiene and transport facilities for girls admitted in secondary schools of the province.
Awami National Party (ANP) Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) urged the provincial government for taking pragmatic steps in promotion of girl’s education, adding that a large number of girls in the province have no access to school and many of them suffering from the custom of early marriage, adding that KP government should take the issue seriously.
Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) woman lawmaker in KP Assembly Baseerat Bibi complained that the girls education system in the province was in a poor condition and a large number of girls were out of schools, adding the ratio was especially high in South Waziristan.
Shahzia Orangzaib, an MPA of PML-N told media that steps to eradicate gender gap and discrimination in education allocation were primary factors need to be addressed.
The lawmakers also presented documented proposals to the provincial education department for bringing reforms in the education sector to increase the ratio of girl’s education in KP.
