In an important meeting held here on Tuesday with joint provincial election commissioner Javed Rehmat in the chair, reviewed ongoing progress in the ten newly merged areas about the vote registration and Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC).
Director Elections Zulfiqar Ahmed, Deputy Director Media Coordination Sohail Ahmed, Assistant Director Gender and Social Inclusion Syed Aun Ahmed Naqvi, and civil society representatives attended the meeting. The forum was informed that under the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) a special campaign in 10 merged districts of the province was successfully underway.
Javed Rahmat on this occasion said that the role of the civil society is very important to gain the objective of the campaign in the merged areas.
Director Zulfiqar Ahmed informed the meeting that ECP has planned to celebrate the National Voters Day on December 7 at the provincial capital and also various seminars and awareness walks will be organized in each district to highlight the importance of vote registration.
He further said that along with the women’s registration campaign, efforts are also needed to increase voter turnout. National Voters Day is also part of the awareness campaign.
This target cannot be achieved without the cooperation of political parties, civil society and the media. The Joint Provincial Election Commissioner said while highlighting the role of the media.
He informed that all the offices have been made accessible for persons with disabilities and efforts are being made to make the polling stations accessible in the upcoming general elections.
The final election lists have been published, still new votes can be registered in these lists, Javed Rahmat added that the role of polling agents is also important in the election. And they need regular training. Civil society should play its role in this regard.
