The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Friday vowed to further accelerate efforts to ensure a safe and quality food supply, with Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Food Dr Muhammad Israr Khan directing the provincial food authority to tighten monitoring of milk, ghee and cooking oil across the province.
Chairing a performance review meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority (KPFS&HFA) here, Dr Khan said the provincial government was fully committed to providing citizens with hygienic and adulteration-free food and would pursue a zero-tolerance policy against the “adulteration mafia.”
The meeting was attended by Director General KP Food Authority Kashif Iqbal Jilani, Director Operations Muhammad Yousaf, Director Administration Amir Hassan and other senior officials. District field officers joined via video link.
Briefing the meeting, the Director General outlined the authority’s ongoing enforcement campaigns, reform initiatives, newly introduced applications under the Management Information System (MIS), and the ongoing province-wide special milk inspection drive.
Dr Khan said daily inspections, sampling and enforcement operations were being carried out to eliminate elements involved in food adulteration and to safeguard public health.
“Businesses complying with food safety standards will be encouraged, while those manufacturing or selling substandard and hazardous food products will face strict legal action,” he said.
The Special Assistant directed field teams to further strengthen surveillance of milk, ghee and cooking oil.
