Khudai Khidmatgar Organization launched spring tree plantation drive on Wednesday.
Awami National Party (ANP) senior leader Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Chairman of Khudai Khidmatgar, Khushdal Khan Advocate, Salar Azam of the organization Dr Shams-ul-Haq, Provincial Chief Dr Naveedullah Khan, Former MPA Salahuddin Khan and others inaugurated the campaign by planting saplings in Mashogagar area of Peshawar.
While addressing the ceremony, ANP Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that deforestation causes pollution and various diseases, adding that planting trees is an ongoing charity and a shared responsibility of all of us.
Plantation must be given importance to prevent global warming, he added and said that trees and plants prevent landslides and floods and reduce damages.
He maintained that six districts of the province are suffering from drought due to environmental degradation.
Effective plantation is a source of rains and helps prevent further spread of drought. The importance of plantation is so much that it is mentioned in the Quran and it is a Sunnah of the Prophet of Islam, ANP leader added.
Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that Bacha Khan has given importance to tree plantation and when he was imprisoned he planted trees in jail.
Bacha Khan and his colleagues made conscious efforts for the welfare of the Pakhtuns. Trees and plants are not only beneficial for humans but birds and birds also benefit from them.
ANP leader shared that the campaign will continue for seven consecutive days across the country and party workers and officials across the country would participate in the drive.
