Budding squash player from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Umeer Arif, won the first McDonald National Junior Squash Championship played at Jehangir Squash Complex Karachi.
Umair got the honor after defeating Pakistan Army Azaan in a thrilling 3-0 final in a one-sided affair. In this entire tournament, Umair won all his matches in three straight sets by taking no time in toppling his rivals.
Umair Arif is in great form, defeating Azan of Pakistan Army in straight sets, the score was 11-9, 11-8 and 12-10. Umair Arif faced some resistance at the hands of Azaan of Pakistan Army but overall he dominated the proceedings and did not give much time to Azaan to settle down in the three sets battle that lasted for only 24 minutes.
Umair belongs to the famous squash Khan family who made Pakistan famous all over the world. Speaking to the media on this occasion, Umair said that he is thankful to his parents, coaches, Directorate General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Bank of Khyber for their support and expressed his determination to continue to serve his country and nation in the future.
“I will continue my hard work and hopefully not only in the Junior tournaments but also in the Senior tournaments both at national and international levels, I will try my best to win it all,” he added. His coach Muhammad Waseem also appreciated Umair Arif for his hard work. Umair Arif is very committed to his practice and matches that is why he has won all the tournaments so far, Muhammad Waseem said.
