CM Azam Khan will inaugurate the festival
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority has announced that the Shandur Polo Festival will be held in Upper Chitral from July 7 to July 9.
The festival has been organized by the Culture and Tourism Authority in collaboration with Pakistan Army and district administration of Chitral.
According to a press release, the festival will be inaugurated by the caretaker Chief Minister of KP Azam Khan. The closing ceremony of the three-day festival will be held on July 9, while a music concert will also be organized for the tourists who come to the festival.
The statement said that authorities concerned have finalized all necessary preparations for the festival which will be hosted on the world’s highest polo ground. It is pertinent to mention here that the Shadur Festival has been celebrated regularly since 1980. The festival has now gained international fame attracting thousands of local and foreign tourists annually.
Last year, the Chitral team was declared the winner in the festival. A tournament has been started in Chitral city in connection with the preparations for the Shandur Polo Festival. In this tournament, the selection of players for the Shandur Polo Festival will also be finalized.
KP Tourism police will also perform their duties not only in the festival, but along with the district police in the region.
