PEDO completes 162MW hydropower projects in KP

Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) has completed seven hydropower projects with a total capacity of 162 megawatt in the province. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has earned Rs47 billion from electricity generation projects working under the PEDO.
This was told in an introductory meeting held here with the caretaker minister for energy and power and mineral development Engineer Ahmed Jan Khan in the chair.
Chief executive officer PEDO engineer Naeem Khan informed the meeting about the ongoing and completed projects of energy in the province.
Engineer Ahmed Jan Khan said that KP has a lot of potential for natural water resources and it is our top priority to utilize these resources for generating low price electricity at provincial level.
He said that the current government wanted to take practical steps for the development of the province and public service delivery in the best manner.
PEDO is working rapidly for the development of the energy sector, which will be a big step for the future economic stability of the province and resilience from the current energy crisis, he added and said that the organization is working with acceleration for the production of low price hydropower electricity in the province.
CEO PEDO shared that so far more than 47 billion rupees of income has been obtained from the electricity generated under PEDO and efforts are being made to increase this income further to stabilize the economy of the province and the country.
Engineer Ahmed Jan Khan furthered that seven major hydropower projects with a total capacity of 162 MW have been completed under PEDO, which are generating billions of rupees annually, while five more projects are in the final stages of completion wherein, a total of 216 MW electricity will be generated.
These projects included by 84MW Gorkan Matiltan Hydropower Project, 69MW Lavi, 40MW Koto, 11MW Crora, 10MW Jabori Hydropower Project.
He went on to say that apart from this, progress is also underway on the 13.5 MW Chaparichar Khel and 6.9 MW Mujahdin Hydropower Projects.
Similarly,PEDO has started work on the largest 300 MW Balakot Hydropower Project in the province with the support of the Asian Development Bank, while practical work is also underway on the 88 MW Gabral Kalam and 157 MW Madin Hydropower projects with the financial support of the World Bank.
Engineer Naeem Khan further said that PEDO has brought the Chief Minister’s House, Chief Minister’s Secretariat and a number of offices at Civil Secretariat on solarization while 8000 schools, 187 BHUs and 4000 mosques in settled districts of the province have also been converted to solar system.
Similarly, 300 mosques and other religious places and 100 villages in the merged districts have been converted to solar energy.
He said that 316 mini micro hydropower projects of 29 megawatts have been completed in areas where there is no electricity in phase one while work is going on to establish 291 more mini micro hydropower projects under phase two.
He added that PEDO has set up a business and financial plan, which will generate 2200 megawatts of low price electricity in the next 8 years, which will be provided to the industrial sector through the wheeling model and the province’s own transmission company, which will stabilize the province’s economy and unemployment.
He said that work is also underway on various projects of 12 megawatts under PEDO with the support of the private sector, which will be a positive development for the development of the economy of the province
On this occasion the provincial minister, Engineer Ahmad Jan Khan expressed his satisfaction on PEDO performance and said that he will soon contact the relevant authorities to solve some of the problems involved with federal institutions in the energy projects.b3
