World Polio Day observes in Landi Kotal

In connection with “World Polio Day”, a walk was conducted here in tehsil compound, Landi Kotal on Tuesday.
Tehsil chairman Haji Shah Khalid, Additional Assistant Commissioner, Landi Kotal Rameez Ali Shah, councillors, health officials and members of civil society were among the participants.
Carrying banners inscribed with the statement, World Polio Day took out a rally from the tehsil office till the exit point of the compound to mark the day.
Speaking on the occasion the health and administration officials said that every year on October 24, polio day is observed to raise awareness of the importance of polio vaccination to protect every child from the crippling disease.
“It further remains for us to continue our efforts, persuade parents to vaccinate their children below five years in every vaccination drive and to make Pakistan free of polio,” they added.
In 2002, WHO European region was announced polio-free, since then on October 24, the World Polio Day is celebrated worldwide.
It is to be mentioned here that Pakistan and Afghanistan are the two countries where polio disease still exists and according to reports three polio cases have been reported in Pakistan while six cases have been filed in Afghanistan in 2023.
