PESHAWAR
Special Assistant to Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Transport and Housing Zafar Ullah Khan Umerzai visited Peshawar Bus Terminal on Thursday and inquired fare rates from passengers and directed transporters to return over charged fares to passengers.
Talking to media persons during his visit the Minister said that provincial and regional transport authorities in collaboration with district administration, traffic police and local government personnels are active engaged in campaign against transporters involved in over charging of fare from the passengers across the province.
He said that 10 thousand vehicles have been checked during the campaign while Rs1.2 have been collected from transporters in fine for over charging from the passengers.
The Special Assistant was flanked by secretary transport Zia Ul Haq, director transport Zeeshan Abdullah, Secretary provincial transport authority Shakeel Ahmad Jan, Secretary regional transport authority Poyo Khan, manager Vehicle Emission Testing Station Peer Zubair and other.
Mr Zafar Ullah Khan Umerzai said that there will be no compromise on over charging fares saying KP Chief Minister Muhammad Azam Khan is keen to provide more relief to people.
“Fuel prices have dropped down, now the transporters should take fares from the passengers as per, the government fare price list” Mr Zafar Ullah Khan Umerzai remarked.
Imposing fines on transporters for over charging is not the permanent solution of the issue, the Special Assistant added mindset of those involved in such malpractices should be changed to get rid of these issues.
He maintained that common people and media persons should support the government in this noble cause.
He further said that federal as well as KP governments are trying their best to provide more facilities to masses.
