The Capital City Police have solved the murder case of a customs official who was shot dead in Shaheen Colony earlier this month, with one of the suspects killed in a crossfire during a raid on Saturday.
According to a press release issued on July 12, officials of Pishtakhara police station tracked down Abdul Qayyum, son of Adnan and a resident of Umeedabad, in connection with the killing of customs official Abbas Ahmad.
The police said Qayyum and an accomplice had gunned down Abbas Ahmad during a snatching attempt in Shaheen Colony on July 2.
When a police team conducted a raid to arrest the suspects on the basis of “modern scientific investigation,” the men opened fire with intent to kill. In the ensuing exchange, Qayyum was hit by firing from his own accomplice and died on the spot, police said. A pistol was recovered from his possession.
The second suspect managed to escape and a manhunt is under way, the release added.
Police said Qayyum had an extensive criminal record. Police also claimed that the suspect had been involved a number of cases and FIRs were registered against him in different police stations of the provincial capital.
