In a crackdown, police on Wednesday foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotics from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Punjab.
Chamkani Police Station SHO Muhammad Ashfaq Khan told reporters that a police team led by DSP Chamkani Zahid Alam, an inter-provincial drug smugglers network has been busted after foiling the attempt to smuggle drugs from Peshawar to Punjab during an important operation.
He said that operation was carried out on a tip-off on Northern Bypass after placing a special blockade.
He said that 17 kg of opium, over 12 kg of heroin and two kg hashish have been recovered from a vehicle and arrested for alleged smuggling.
Police said that the arrested person has been identified as Muhammad Bashir, resident of Punjab province. A case has been registered and further investigation launched by the police to arrest other accomplices of the gang, said police.
It is pertinent to mention here that SHO Chamkani Muhammad Ashfaq had foiled an attempt to smuggle a large amount of drugs two days ago.
