A three-month skill program concluded in PCSIR Peshawar

The concluding ceremony of a three-month skill program titled “Technical and Employable Skill Advance on Marble and Mosaic Work” was held at Dimension Stones Centre of PCSIR Labs complex in Peshawar here on Thursday.
The training program was organized by the PCSIR Laboratories Peshawar in collaboration with Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP).
During the ceremony 25 successful trainees were awarded course completion certificates. Eminent Scientists, Engineers from PCSIR and renowned HRD Experts from SRSP attended the event.
Jehangir Shah, Director General-PCSIR Labs, Syed Awlad Hussain, Chief Executive SRSP, Engr. Ahmad Ali, Chief Engineer/Head Dimension Stones Centre, PCSIR-Peshawar and Dr Javed Abbas Bangash, Director (P&D)-PCSIR on this occasion shed lights over the program and its importance for the participants.
They said that the training Program will equip the trainees with the most sophisticated techniques on Marble and Mosaic Works, its value addition and formation of most advanced Marble and Mosaic products, which can be exported by making huge financial dividends.
They stated that the program will generate employment opportunities for the youth of newly merged impoverished districts by enabling them to earn their livelihoods and start their own business in Marble/Dimension Stones, Mosaic, Soap Stones, and Granite.
Jehangir Shah, highlighted the objectives of the Dimension Stones Centre by stating that it is to ensure rapid development in the industrial sector of Dimension Stones by producing export quality products through introduction of new advanced level training programs in the emerging trades with modern-age techniques of teaching and state-of-the-art machineries.
They further stated that Allah has blessed Pakistan with a variety of abundant mineral resources especially Marble and Granite.
About 30 varieties are found in the region and newly merged districts and
Pakistan is fulfilling the local demand of Marble but imports Granite for local use.
Granite mining and processing industry is in its infancy and there are some processing units in operation based on imported machinery in the whole of Pakistan which are unable to meet even the local demand.
Marbles are used in construction, floor tiles, monuments, sculptures, cemetery stones, paving, benches etc.
More than 300 billion tons of reserves are estimated in Pakistan in almost every color of marble including white, grey, pink, green and yellow.
