Heavy rain and flood flash killed five persons including three persons of repatriated Afghan family and injured nine others locals in Landi Kotal on Monday morning, rescue 1122 and hospital officials said.
They said that torrential downpour washed away several houses and vehicles on the Pak-Afghan highway.
A tragic incident occurred at Sultan Khel village when a vehicle carrying a repatriated Afghan family was swept away by a flash flood leaving three people dead including a child.
According to the Rescue 1122, Khyber the family was on its way to Afghanistan when their vehicle was caught in a strong flash flood.
Rescue team launched an operation and recovered the bodies of a man and woman from the flood waters in Jaba Khwar, Jamrud and a child’s body from Parang Sam, they said.
The bodies were shifted to Headquarter Hospital Landi Kotal for medico-legal formalities, they said.
Likewise, two youths identified as Abuzer son of Imran and Saif ullah son of Arafat of Sadu Khel village were killed in flood flash in Landi Kotal, hospital sources said.
Nine persons, mostly children , were reportedly wounded in Piro Khel, Zakria Masjid area, Fatmi Khel, Khuga Khel etc.
In the same way, the flash flood washed away different links roads and damages were made to houses in Sultan Khel, Khuga Khel.
The rain water swept away all of the government high school, Zentara, Landi Kotal, locals said.
Assistant Commissioner (AC), Landi Kotal Inamullah Khan led the relief works and besides the Rescue 1122 workers initiated relief and rescue operations in the area.
With support of National Highway Authority(NHA), traffic resumed on Pak-Afghan highway in addition with cleaning of local roads had also been launched in various parts of the Landi Kotal,AC,Landi Kotal said.
Meanwhile, officials of district administration and Rescue 1122, Khyber urged the public to avoid crossing flood prone roads during the ongoing monsoon season.
The local political and social figures demanded of the government to establish bridges on the Pak-Afghan highway to prevent frequent loss of human loss.
